Are you a fan of “mocktails”? I personally would rather have tequila thrown into the mix 100% of the time but for the times (aka Whole30) that I don’t want can’t have a drink I like to whip up something just as tasty and refreshing.
You may remember me sharing the recipe for a black cherry margarita a few weeks ago on Instagram…well, this Black Cherry Basil Mocktail is a riff on that drink! I promise it’s just as refreshing, especially on the warm almost summer days.
One sip and I said something along the lines of that it could be dangerous because it was so delicious…two seconds later the waiter informed me that it didn’t contain any alcohol! I swear it tasted just like a classic caipirinha though so that’s when I realized that mocktails could be totally delicious even without the booze.
This mocktail is packed with herbaceous flavor from some muddled fresh basil. I bought a plant the other day and somehow I’ve managed to keep it alive so hopefully there will be tons of pesto and salads packed with basil in the near future. However, my thumb is as black as coal so I can’t make any promises.
After muddling the basil all you have to do is throw in some lime juice, black cherry concentrate, and sparkling water! I’ve been loving my KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker for a few months now. It’s one of my favorite appliances and I’m saving all sorts of money on buying sparkling water each week. I *may* still have an addiction to La Croix’s coconut flavor but there’s no way I can replicate that flavor at home. I’m a big fan of muddling some mint and lime juice with a splash of sparkling water though and that’s replaced 90% of my sparkling water habit. It tastes similar to a mojito and I can drink it at 9 a.m and not be totally ridiculous 😉
