These boozy Tequila Orange Truffles are the perfect indulgence for Cinco de Mayo…or any other time of the year!
Truffles have always been one of my favorite desserts. I adore them and always have!
Another thing I adore? Tequila. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…I sometimes wish it wasn’t alcoholic so I could put it in everything. I don’t know what it is but I love the sharp peppery and slightly fruity taste of good tequila. Mezcal is also a favorite but it definitely takes some getting used to. So in my quest to combine two things I love just like I did with the Earl Grey tea and truffles I’ve now combined truffles and tequila which are out of this world. It’s not solely my idea, I’ve mentioned before that one of my favorite cookbooks is Death by Burrito. I’ve made a few tweaks to his recipe to make it Paleo. They were so good we immediately (and I mean no less than 5 minutes after I photographed them) took some to family so we wouldn’t eat them all. Sweets don’t stay in our house for long, that’s one reason why I try not to make tons of sweets often. They get gobbled up as soon as they hit the counter.
Do you have a favorite boozy dessert? These are definitely my favorite…I’ll be making these far too often than I should!

These boozy tequila orange truffles are the perfect indulgence for any party.
Ingredients

- 10 tablespoons full fat coconut milk
- 1/2 medium orange (zest and juice)
- 2 1/2 tablespoons ghee (cold, diced)
- 9 ounces 85% dark chocolate
- 1.5 fl oz 100% agave silver tequila
- cocoa powder (for dusting)
Instructions
More TIPS about this paleo recipe in the post above!
- Bring the coconut milk, orange juice, and orange zest to a boil. Once boiling remove from heat and let it sit for 1 hour.
- Chop the chocolate into small slivers and place in a heat safe bowl.
Bring the coconut milk mixture back to a boil and stir in the ghee. Pour the boiling mixture over the chocolate and stir until incorporated.
- If the chocolate doesn't fully emulsify into a smooth ganache bring 2-3 tablespoons of coconut milk to a boil and add to the mixture. (sometimes you need a bit more coconut milk)
- Stir in the tequila and place in the freezer or refrigerator to set. Once it is set use a spoon to make small truffles using your hands to form it into a ball. Dust in cocoa powder and serve.
Recipe Notes
**It's best to keep these truffles in the refrigerator. They will keep for up to a week if you have any self control. For us they last less than 2 days.

What can I substitute for ghee. I’m allergic to dairy. Will same ratio plant butter work?
Perri
Half an orange juiced and zested is a bit vague. Can you provide a measurement?
Lauren
Hi Perri, there’s no need to be specific. Just a regular sized orange will do.
Amy
What specific tequila did you use? How do I know when the mixture is set? How big do I make the balls? Should I use a tablespoon measurer for example.
Lauren
Hi Amy, I use a 100% agave silver tequila but any type you like to drink will work well in this recipe. You can make the balls as big or as little as you like. The mixture is set once it’s hard but malleable. Hope this helps!
Emma
Mind blown!

these sound great! i’m going to try it for a cinco de mayo dinner we’re having. i’ve never made truffles before…i’m wondering if i can keep the mixture in the fridge overnight and then roll them into truffles/coat with cocoa the following morning?
Lauren
Hi Tara! Yeah you can totally do that! Let me know how they turn out!
